Orchestra

The symphony orchestra of the university of Jyväskylä was established in 1993. The orchestra is known as an active orchestra for music hobbyists, and the players are mainly students. Sinfis has 1-3 concerts a year. Sinfis also plays with smaller ensembles for example in university festivities.

The orchestra has partaken in many different projects. In the last years Sinfis has played for example Mozarts concerto's and Finnish music (Wienistä pohjoiseen, 2016), film music (Salute to the Cinema 2016 & Valkokankaan Säveliä 2011) and a Sibelius concert (Sinfis: Sibelius, 2015). In addition to own concerts, Sinfis has partaken in musicals (Metsälammen Musikantit - childrens music fable 2014 & Ruusun Varjo -musical in 2006. The orchestra collaborates readily with other musical ensembles (Mozart Requiem together with choirs from Helsinki, Pohjalaisten Osakuntien Laulajat and Savolaisen Osakunnan Laulajat. 2009 and 2010 and concerts with wind band Puhkupillit in 2002, 2011 and 2022. Sinfis has played outside of Jyväskylä and Finland, in Germany 2008 and Kuusamo in 2023. As conductors Sinfis has had many prominent musicians active in Finland and Central Finland, including Marja Ikonen, Satu Simola, Eveliina Aijasaho and Huba Hollóköi.

All new players are warmly welcome! There is no audition. We practice on Mondays 17-20 o'clock in hall M103 of department of music.
